Latest Love You Forever Product Review

Love You Forever

Love You Forever

A young woman holds her newborn son
And looks at him lovingly.

Softly she sings to him:
“I’ll love you forever
I’ll like you for always
As long as I’m living
My baby you’ll be.”

So begins the story that has touched the hearts of millions worldwide. Since publication in l986, Love You Forever has sold more than 15 million copies in paperback and the regular hardcover edition (as well as hundreds of thousands of copies in Spanish and French)

The mother sings to her sleeping baby: “I’ll love you forever / I’ll love you for always / As long as I’m living / My baby you’ll be.” She still sings the same song when her baby has turned into a fractious 2-year-old, a slovenly 9-year-old, and then a raucous teen. So far so ordinary–but this is one persistent lady. When her son grows up and leaves home, she takes to driving across town with a ladder on the car roof, climbing through her grown son’s window, and rocking the sleeping man in the same way. Then, inevitably, the day comes when she’s too old and sick to hold him, and the roles are at last reversed. Each stage is illustrated by one of Sheila McGraw’s comic and yet poignant pastels. (Ages 4 to 8) –Richard Farr

Latest The Problem With Chickens (New York Times Best Illustrated Books (Awards)) Review

The Problem With Chickens (New York Times Best Illustrated Books (Awards))

The Problem With Chickens (New York Times Best Illustrated Books (Awards))

The ladies of Iceland have a problem: the birds lay their eggs in nooks on the sides of steep cliffs, so the ladies have a very difficult time getting any of the eggs for baking. They go to town to buy chickens to lay eggs for them instead. For a while, everyone is happy: there are plenty of eggs to bake plenty of yummy things. But the ladies’ problems are far from solved, for the more time the chickens spend with the ladies, the more they begin to act like them too, until eventually they stop laying eggs all together. Now this is a problem indeed, but you can be sure, the clever ladies will find a solution. Full of fun and silliness, this lighthearted tale and vibrant illustrations are a delight.

Last weekend some children’s book authors were in Archeon, where they would tell stories and read from their books, the woman on the left is Lydia Rood

I needed a photo of children’s books for a power point presentation on dyslexia. Since I couldn’t find one that I wanted on the internet, took out some of my old childhood books and took this picture.

Ferdinand the Bull – one of the best children’s stories ever written. A classic story about being yourself

Pecos Bill and Other Tales – America’s version of folk heroes

Saddlebreds – the history and breed characteristics of the American Saddlebred

Kidnapped – Robert Louis Stevenson’s book of adventure and self-discovery. It’s been so long that I only remember the fact that I enjoyed the story. I might purchase the unabridged version and read it again

Arthur and the Recess Rookie – George, an anthropomorphized eight year old moose with dyslexia and social anxiety is teased at recess for being bad at sports.

Black Beauty – The life of a nineteenth century workhorse told as a first person account by the animal. Great book from a literary, historical and human/animal rights prospective. A must read, so long as you don’t mind reading about animal maltreatment

Why Don’t You Get a Horse, Sam Adams? – The true story of how Sam Adams learned to ride a horse just prior to the end of the revolution – something he had refused to do until his pride as a leader was called into question
