Kodak Retinette Type 022

The Retinette was a fully manual Kodak compact 35mm film camera that was in production for many years and underwent several design tweaks and lens/shutter combinations.
This particular example has a Schneider Kreuznach Reomar 45mm lens with a maximum aperture of f/3.5.
Compur-rapid shutter has a B(ulb) setting plus a range of speeds up to 1/500s.
I believe this one was assembled in Germany and dates from 1954-58.
Serial number is 329362.

Cheap as chips on fleabay. I’ve had two but threw one away as it was a broken freebie. Price is usually around 3-5 quid including postage.

UPDATE, 4/10: I shot a roll of very expired Truprint 200 with this camera and I was pleasantly surprised with the results. Shooting mainly at f/8 and 1/250s or 1/500s (it was a bright day – my light meter indicated LV=15, "sunny 16"), the pictures were exposed wonderfully. I used a clip-on rangefinder to get the distance correct for some shots, as I’m not good at guessing things like 35 feet (I prefer metres). The lens is a little soft in the corners, and depth of field is quite limited even at f/8 thanks to the 45mm focal length (longer than my favourite wide-angles) but it’s pretty damn sharp. More impressive than the resolution was the colour saturation. Greens in particular came out incredibly. For a 55-year old "point n’ shoot", this camera will take some beating.

Kodak No 1A JR (autographic)

This folding camera is in a sad state, but then it’s about 90 years old. Built by the Eastman Kodak Company of Rochester, New York between 1914 and 1927, it takes long discontinued "autographic" 116 rollfilm, which was notable for storing written information on the back of it. A small stylus was provided with the camera, and the user could sign or date the film as it scrolled past a window on the camera’s back. (A bit like the date function on APS film, but customizable).
Negatives were a massive 6.5x11cm but the lack of decent lenses and shutters would have made it quite difficult to get a sharp action shot with one of these.
Shutters and lenses were changed at will by Kodak (the early years of the company are a logistical mess for a collector), but this example has the following:
EKC Ball Bearing shutter with T, B, 1/25s, 1/50s and 1/100s settings. Patent dates of 1910 and 1913. Serial numbers (?): 9714 and 9716.
Lens: Kodak Anastigmat f/7.7-45. Serial no: 16779.

Sadly, the shutter blades seem to be stuck, but it looks like I could unscrew the housing and clean them up if I wanted to.

I got the camera free in a job lot. Sale prices vary wildly according to condition. The original list price was evidently which must have been an absolute fortune at the time.
Captain Kodak has a similar model in fine condition.

My research for the Kodak_No._1A_Folding_JR camerapedia page, indicates this lens/shutter combination was used from 1915-25.
