When I first saw this I thought they attached a calculator to a netbook. Ewww. On closer inspection it’s a netbook with a remote control and touch-screen capabilites. All for the low low cost of £250 from Borders.

Why oh why would you need a remote control for a netbok with a very small screen? If you get more than 4 feet away you wont be able to see things clearly, so the control becomes redundant. Also, 30gigs is nowhere near enough for some peoples’ music and movie libraries. Plus, do I really want to see my control every time I look at the damned screen?

Now comes the touch-screen. I’ve seen some touch-screen laptops before but they usually have the option to swivel the screen effectively making it a tablet. Why would you need a touch screen when you have a keyboard, trackpad and can have a mouse? It might be fun for two minutes resizing photos with your fingers but then all you’re left with is a screem that anyone can touch to annoy the hell out of you. Also, it’s a fucking small screen! My whole hand is bigger than that screen (admittedly I do have rather large hands).

All this netbook is is a bunch of gimmicks thrown together in the hope that it’ll impress people. If you’ve ever even thought about buying a netbook, assuming you’re in Borders in the Bull Ring in Birmingham, UK, please just go upstairs to Currys/Dixons/whatever they’re calling themselves these days. They’re also shit, but their laptops are at least useable (once you get all ofthe crapware off that is )
