Often when I am arranging the garden table setting for a photo shoot , I get distracted by something in my garden, drawing my attention to it.Out of the corner of my eye I notice a flash of color a brilliance that beckons me to further investigate.

I am amazed by what nature can come up with in my Phuket Thai Tropical Garden such as mine to share with you.

For me going Organic is my only option, as I know that other wise I would never see the teaming of wild life in my garden plot from earth worms to green snakes . From the various frogs, lizards, butterflies,Dragonflies,HoneyBees, and birds of every tropical description.All my Earth friends would never make residence in my garden if I chose to use chemical unsustainable practices for sure.

Science knows that plants are systemic in that the vegetable or fruit tree will absorb everything through its roots and through the plants internal fibers. This is why washing conventionally sprayed produce really does not remove the chemical that the plant absorbed systematically.

I remember one day as I was shaking a stowaway frog out of my boot that morning, my Thai wife named Am pointed out at our near by Rose Apple tree in distress. I knew what all the fuss was about as this tree for some time was being ravaged by some invasive insect species eating holes through all the leaves. Am wanted to use chemicals, but being the Naturalist that I am, I wanted to find another way so I inspected the leaves up close for more evaluation of the situation.

I noticed that the intruder on each leaf was attached to the underside in some kind of cocoon fashion, well protected from any natural predator like the birds in my garden. Scratching my head I thought to my self why don’t I just remove every leaf mechanically until my big Rose Apple tree is naked as a Jay Bird?

Well thats what I did , I stripped my tree down from all its leaves and disposed of the foliage instead of composting the stuff just to be safe. After awhile , about one month, all the new leaves grew back with briliance ,and the tree looked better than ever, and started to bare nice rose apple fruits as well.

It just seemed to me at the time , that a simple idea like working with nature and not working against nature made more common sense to me. I continued to make observations and notes around my tropical garden incorporating a popular method invented in Australia called Permaculture. This method works by mixing ornamentals and edibles together , which in effect confuses the heck out of the pest insects.For example some of my favorite herb trees the Thai Olive Tree had to be pruned back and relocate in large pots, in more desirable locations to help strengthen the plant. Eventually the pest lost and the tree came out the winner with out any recourse of using toxic chemicals.I feel this is why I share such a close agricultural relationship with my Olive Trees from saving them the Natural Way from Natures Pests. Therefore I routinely ,in almost every garden recipe photo shoot, place an Olive Branch across my serving napkin.

The tropical flower in the photo is common in Phuket Thailand , but the flowering is short lived so I feel that I captured its bloom at the peak time of the plants LIFE cycle. I am happy to share this moment with you in my tropical Thai garden.

Dried fruits made a big showing this year, too. This product was only 1 WW point (for the entire bag!). It was dried fruit, but it had a really great, tangy (almost crispy) taste — not mushy like some dried fruits. We really loved it. And the "Ingredients" list names ONLY the fruit — no preservatives, sugar, etc.
