‘A Looming Threat’, Australia, The Outback, Pine Creek

The Australian Outback is everything I expected and more. I left Darwin almost immediately and ventured into the Outback. I’ll remember the tranquil feeling I experienced as I stood there in one of the Outback’s many remote fields. With a warm breeze at your face and a magnificent 360 degree view of an untouched landscape, its hard to not fall in love with this majestic landscape. The Aboriginal people had and still do hold a unique and spiritual connection to this land. I can certainly see why. The area is photographers paradise with its rich and vibrant colors that can be found in everything from the dark blue hue of the sky to the bright crimson color of land.
This photo was shot towards the end of my first day in the Outback. I chased these clouds while driving down the Stuart Highway (had I gone another 1540km I would have ended up in Alice Springs). Pulling over every few minutes to capture these clouds, I felt like child trying to capture fireflies on a warm summers evening. They were absolutely magnificent. Often in the Outback, as the day presses on the heat and moisture begins to build up causing these enormous cumulus nimbus clouds to form. This particular cumulus nimbus reminded me of an Imperial Destroyer from Star Wars. It certainly has triangular shape to it.
I’m traveling the world right now. I’m currently in Australia in Darwin checking out the outback. If you’d like to tag along with me pleas check out my HDR travel blog at www.LostManProject.com as I will try and post photos daily of my experiences.

cloud panorama

I was driving home from work last week, and the clouds that evening were so gorgeous that I had to take some pictures. I stitched this panorama together from 3 photos.
This version is resized for use as a dual-screen wallpaper. Resolution is 3360×1050, so it spans two side-by-side monitors running at 1680×1050.
If anyone wants, I’d be happy to resize the original to fit your screen setup.
365/209: Every cloud has a silver lining

I’m in Delaware currently, with Max. Because of our chaotic schedules, the only way to hang out together was for me to get up at 5:30am and drive to Delaware with Max. He has a meeting here for two days. So we’re in Delaware, its really early, and I’m tired. But the day ended well, with a nice dinner and lots of good beer at the Dogfish Head Brewery, and then a beach & ice cream adventure. Silver lining!

One thing that is so cool in the big city, is not just the buildings, but also the reflections of other things in the buildings. Plus, there is nothing like laying back on the chaise lounger and then watching the strange cloud formations float overhead, as the sun breaks through. We usually take the train (VIA Rail) but they were talking about a strike so we decided to drive, and it was very nice. We hit customs on the Canadian side on Sunday morning and the line was very low, and even Saturday afternoon customs going back on the American side was good. If you do not hit this just right, you can wait in customs for hours and hours, on the Ambassador Bridge in Detroit. If it looks bad with a long line, take the tunnel. The roads were clean, wide, and smooth, which made for a very nice relaxing trip. I first rode the Toronto Subway at a District Convention in 1966, 44 years ago. It is still a super fast way to travel, although we got to see some very odd things this time. We seen them evacuate an entire train for some unknown reason to all the riders dismay at rush hour, and then later while we were riding they had to shutdown all the trains because they lost the computer showing the trains locations. People went scrambling off the train to catch taxi cabs if they could not wait. The trains come flying in so fast the air flow will almost take the newspaper right out of your hands. Next year they will be adding all new trains, but it still looked very clean to me. We tried to get photos of the buildings, the people, what they call Fresh Wednesday, Tasty Thursday, and the underground city called PATH along with the subway.
