Question by miss2mex: How can i easily separate two light fixtures that were originally wired together?
We just changed the fixtures in my in laws kitchen. There were two florescent fixtures now there is one and one ceiling fan where the other was. They would like to be able to turn off the florescent light while leaving on the ceiling fan. Problem: They are wired to the same wall switch. Is there a remote switch or something we can put on the florescent fixture?

Answer by Keith M You can add a pull switch to the light.
Otherwise, if the line feed comes in to the fan box, you can put the pull switch on the fan and use the wall switch to control the light.
The other option is to rewire with a 3 wire +ground from the switch and replace the switch with a duplex switch, one for the fan and one for the light.

Question by readvonnegut: How do I wire six desk lamps together to attach to a ceiling fixture?
Each lamp uses an 11W bulb, so it shouldn’t use too much power, right? I’m attaching the lamps to a center piece, and hanging it from a ceiling fixture. I’m assuming desk lamps don’t have a ground wire, but then again, I’m not too familiar with this sort of thing.

Answer by andygroch If you attach to a center piece, run all wires to that point. That will be the junction point. There you can attach all the grounds, and hots together. Use a new section of 18/2 to run from that point up to the junction box. you can also attach an additional ground to the center piece for safety. That is about all I can help you with not seeing your parts and not knowing exactly what the configuration really looks like. You will be fine with wattage control, but another consideration will be the weight of the piece when you are done. If it exceeds 60lbs you will need additional bracing in the j-box to handle the weight.
